The Viking

Greetings, warriors and shieldmaidens!

I am the Viking. A warrior of Valhalla who has fought countless battles, crossed swords with mighty enemies and shared more than a few drinking horns with Odin and his Einherjar in the great halls of the fallen.

Those were glorious days. We had enough mead to make even the gods forget their own names. But times have changed. I have returned to the realm of men and somehow, I have traded my life as a berserker for that of a musician. That’s a rather strange career choice, I admit. But surprisingly … not that much has changed.

I still travel to distant and unfamiliar places and meet extraordinary people. There is still plenty of noise, shouting, drinking and the occasional questionable decision. The main difference? These days, I tend to make friends instead of burning down their villages. Apparently, that’s called progress.

And while my fellow kings and I are still allowed to summon fire upon the stage, those in charge of the venues have made it very clear that setting the entire concert hall ablaze is no longer considered acceptable entertainment. What a shame that is, really. Odin would have appreciated the effort.

But enough about my glorious past. As everyone knows, we Vikings have always been a remarkably progressive people. We crossed oceans long before others dared to sail beyond the horizon and had a rather straightforward approach to international relations. So naturally, I have decided to embrace another great achievement of mankind:

Writing a blog.

Here, I shall share my thoughts, memories and whatever strange ideas happen to wander through my head. There will be no particular order and certainly no promise that any of it will make sense. You may hear crazy tales from the road, strange encounters in foreign kingdoms and adventures with my fellow WARKINGS!!!

Some stories will be glorious. Others ridiculous. And a few might be slightly exaggerated. So, if you wish to hear the ramblings of an old warrior trying to find his place in this strange modern world, join me on this journey.

There are many stories yet to tell, many roads left to travel and probably a few more questionable decisions to make along the way.

And always remember one simple truth:

“Every story is better with a horn of mead or a good cup of wine.”

Skål!
